More of the Mercer Logs: Sunday July 19, 1874 Barometer 30.1 This day begins with the wind SSE, light. Ned, Tom and Jack went fishing. Caught three. All hands busy laying around doing nothing. 5 pm Schr. L. Wells arrived from Calcasieu. So ends this day. Wind ESE, moderate. Monday July 20, 1874 This day begins with the wind E, light. John, Ned, Tom and Jack went to Shell Banks. Finished painting the Doaga and launched her and brought her in the Cove. I.B. Jessie came in from New Orleans, bound for the Rio Grande. She stopped until evening and then put out. Schr. Leona off the bar. So ends this day. Wind ESE, light. Smooth bar. Common tide. Thurs. July 23, 1874 This day begins with the wind S, light. Ned and Jack went to Rockport in the Bessie. Got some salt. Frank arrived from Corpus in the Three Brothers. Brought a brl. of sugar. So ends the day. Wind SE, good breeze. Fri. July 24, 1874 This day begins with the wind S, blowing fresh. Tom and Jack went to Rockport in the Three Brothers. Jack going to start business. The S. Alice Taylor went out. The S. Clements off the bar. The tide low and running out strong. No one comes in. The girls went for an oyster roast. So ends the day. Wind SSE, blowing fresh. Good sea on. Sun. July 26, 1874 This day begins with the wind S, fresh. SS I.C. Harris came from Brazos. Went to Rockport. Taken on cattle and left for Brashear. Brig. Albert from Hamburg anchored off the bar. She draws 10 1/2 feet. The Capt. came ashore. So ends this day. Wind SSE, fresh. Rough bar. Low tide.
