More people are stepping up to help find the man who raped an 11-year-old girl in an abandoned home on Dec. 10. The Wayne County Sheriff Department is offering to help out with patrols in Highland Park. FOX 2 is learning that brutal attack happened as the little girl was running to catch the bus. She was running to catch her bus and some coward abducted her and did terrible things to this young girl, Police Chief Kevin Coney said. All she could to was call her mom and run from this predator. So if youre watching, were coming to get you. Coney joined about 50 civic and community leaders outraged over the attack and pressing the public to do its part to bring the man to justice. This is a call to action to come out and say that enough is enough in our community, said Highland Park Mayor DeAndre Windom. We are sick of people preying on our youth and our seniors, Im personally sick about it, said Steve Dolunt, of The Detroit Police Department. Detroit police are looking into the possibility that this attack and the rape of a 17-year-old girl on Detroits westside are connected. Neither suspect has been caught. Highland Park police searched the city for the girls attacker for more than 12 hours Monday night and early Tuesday morning. They have identified a man pictured in a artist sketch as a person of interest. Hes described as 6 feet tall, 150-170 pounds, he has a dark complexion, said Det. Brian Menge of the Detroit police. He has some facial hair, almost like a goatee, moustache. Menge is leading the investigation and was floored when he learned what the man told the 11-year-old girl during the attack. This is what she gets because she was allowed to walk to school by herself, Menge said the attacker said. This is not a Highland Park issue, this is a people issue, said Malik Shabazz, community activist. Shabazz from the Marcus Garvey Movement is leading search parties for the girls attacker. They will meet Wednesday and Friday at 1 p.m. at Highland Park City Hall. This is mainly a call for men to stand up and a call for black men in particular to stand up, he said. This is about us speaking up. This is about showing up, getting up and standing up. And saying all of our children will be protected by us. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and will double it to $2,000 if you provide it before midnight Tuesday. That bounty is set to go up as people outraged over what happened are donating to the reward fund to bring the girls attacker to justice.
