More pondering, and I make no apologiies if this post isnt popular. As the result of the horrific Manchester Dogs Home fire, and the awful death of over 50 dogs in their care, we have seen a flood of people offering to adopt and foster dogs, literally BEGGING to be allowed to help. We have seen already well over £1 million raised to help with the rebuild, care, treatment, feeding and ongoing work of the rescue. This is a fantastic and worthwhile response and it shows that this country CARES. BUT... EVERY DAY in the UK dogs are dying. EVERY DAY reputable rescues are BEGGING for foster homes in order to prevent those deaths. EVERY DAY rescues struggle to fund the work they do. Veterinary care such as neutering and spaying, vaccinations, dentals for neglected teeth, mammary tumour removal, ear repairs from untreated infections, eye removals from neglected infections...the list is endless. EVERY DAY Dogs are being abandoned or signed over to council pounds by owners who can no longer keep them, or no longer want them. Those dogs have just SEVEN...yes 7, days in council care hoping to be reclaimed. If theyre lucky, they may be offered a rescue space at the end of those 7 days...if the rescue HAS a space, and CAN afford to take them. If not THEYRE DEAD. PLEASE dont just offer your help in a very visible televised crisis. This countrys dogs and the rescues who try to clear up the mess are in crisis EVERY bloody day of the year. YOU can make a difference. If you dont like the thought of dogs dying...then dont wait for it to be a bloody fire to make you wake up to reality. Make a difference TODAY, NOW. XX
