More snow fell over the night. Powder sugar soft, it sifted from the dark sky and coated the ground like my Grandma might have dusted a molasses cookie with confection 40 years ago. At least it has covered our previous snow with a blanket of pure white, hiding that ugly brownish-white snow/top soil blend that the wind mixed up a week ago. But yesterday, before our new snow started, the flat land of northwest Ohio was a garish mix. Scabby patches of bare ground festered here and there in a dirty landscape. Huge, tumors of wind stacked snow swelled in strategic locations, and a three day growth of corn and bean stubble poked above what little snow was left in the fields. When its like this, the land always looks dead and rotting to me, but the Chessies love those snow drifts. At least they did until yesterday. :) It seems that yesterday afternoon was lets blow Dad off time, and as I threw millet for the sparrows, larks, and a few doves, the dynamic duo of Bill and Goo Goo commandeered their bumpers and went on a rant. Hopping around in the snow, they would drop their dummies, push them under the snow, and then pretend they couldnt find them. They would look at me with marked disdain and playful contempt. That wasnt a pretty thing to see, and I was not in a playful mood. After all, the Pack was, at the time, getting beat by the Cowboys :( When I finally got everyone, rounded up, we headed for the biggest snow drift I could find, and I began hurling bumpers. Twas a beautiful thing to see Bill and Goo Goo bound out, hit that snow drift, sink in, and have to bounce their way to their bumpers; lounging snow, if you will :) After half an hour, their tongues were hanging out and they were a little more agreeable with Dads wishes, so we worked on some things. We done some whistle sets, a little handling, and even done a couple downs to the whistle. They were a pair of sleepy pups when we were finished. Sleepy, and happy :)
