More than 1,400 CDCR inmate firefighters are on the fire lines today, many of them battling fighting the Bully Fire in Shasta County. After 24 hours of fighting fire, CDCR inmate firefighters shower, eat and bed down in a building or tent while CAL FIRE captains requisition replacements for broken or lost equipment and supplies. After 24 hours of food and rest, the crews will fight fire for another 24 hours. During that period of firefighting, the inmate crew and captain will eat MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) in the field. The Bully Fire has spread to 11,700 acres and is 51 percent contained. Evacuations are in place and 18 structures have been destroyed. Despite the intense heat and steep, rugged terrain, crews have made significant progress in all areas of the fire, CAL FIRE reports. Learn more: goo.gl/6I4Knl.
