More than 150 Veterans, family, VAMC staff and stakeholders converged onto the medical center grounds for Saturdays 5th Annual Memorial & Honoring Ceremony by the many American Indian Veterans Advisory Committee. From the Grand Entry of several tribes, to the Warrior Drums, song and prayer, to the recognition of WW-II and Korean War Veterans, the entire day honored Native American culture and Veterans of all races. A meal, including salmon offered by the Colville Tribe was followed by stories of bravery, dignity and honor by many Veterans. Former WW-II Prisoners of War Bud Kirchhoff and George Littman were also recognized and honored, as was Tribal Elder and WW-II Veteran Fred Gabourie among others. The day-long event was punctuated by a powerful closing prayer by Calvin Nomee of the Coeur dAlene Tribe. Thanks to everyone who continue to make this annual event a very powerful and moving tribute to honor Veterans, their memory and their legacy on the people and communities they impacted the most.
