More than 30 people attended our Park Protector Award ceremony at Dartmoor National Park Authoritys gold award-winning information centre at Princetown yesterday. On the left is Beth Davies, North York Moors National Park Authority building conservation officer receiving her runner-up cheque and certificate from sponsor the Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust trustee Jeremy Colls for its Buildings at Risk app. This allows volunteers the opportunity to assess the state of listed buildings on a tablet and download information. English Heritage has been so impressed it is developing the app for smart-phone use to roll across the country next year. On the right are Felicity Harris and Rachel Jones from Plantlife with sponsors HF Holidays Janet Coles. They took the top award for their Make the Small Things Count Atlantic Woodlands project to protect and educate land managers, NGOs, volunteers and the public about the rare mosses, lichens and ferns found on Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Quantocks and Mendips. The event also heard from former Dartmoor National Park Authority chief executive and author Ian Mercer CBE, our Chief Executive Julian Woolford and our Mosaic project officer for Exmoor Barney Simmons. Further coverage will be in November electronic newsletter and a detailed account will be in the next edition of Viewpoint.
