More than 400 teens (ages 12-17) and one of their parents - TopicsExpress

More than 400 teens (ages 12-17) and one of their parents completed baseline interviews and then were followed for the next 5 years. Adolescent smoking and nicotine dependence as well as their “smoking trajectory” were monitored with follow-up interviews at one and five years from study onset. Sadly, the more nicotine dependent the parent, the more worrisome the smoking trajectory in the teenager, suggesting that efforts we are making in our offices to work with parents to quit smoking (even though the parents are not our direct patient) are very well-intentioned.
