More than 60% of assault offences in the Northern Territory are associated with domestic violence. 82% of domestic violence victims in the Northern Territory are women with Indigenous females more likely to be the victims than non-Indigenous females. The Northern Territory Government is implementing a Domestic and Family Violence Reduction Strategy 2014-17: Safety is Everyone’s Right. It is a comprehensive approach to tackling domestic violence in our community with safety being the core approach as it is a basic human right.The victim-focused, integrated strategy aims to create an improved and coordinated approach to reduce and prevent domestic and family violence. The Strategy is jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments, and highlights actions to achieve better service delivery, partnerships and sharing of information between agencies.
