More than five thousand people gathered in a protest meeting at Chhatrapur today demanding CBI inquiry of Sakura Behera assassination case. Com Simanchal Sahu presided over the meeting. Thousands of CPI cadres marched in a procession through the main streets of this district head quarter town carrying Red flags and raising slogans “Sakura Behera Amar Rahe” Sakura Behera Redsalute and “ strong punishment to the murders” and culminated into a huge protest Public Meeting addressed by state leaders of CPI and CPI(M). It is not like the general meetings of the Left Parties where the participants raomed here and there while the meeting was going on. To-day there is only grim and anger faces of the participants over the cold blooded political murder of their dear young leader Sakura Behera, one II yr. LLM student of Bramhapur University and a rising young Communist leader liked by the youth masses of the district. CPI state secretary Dibakara Nayak, CPI(M) state secretariat member Ali Kishore Pattanaik, CPI national council member Ramakrushna Panda, Biswanath Sahu and N.Narayan Reddy both former MLAs of Chhatrapur, Prakash Patra Ganjam district CPI secretary, Sriharsha Rath district assistant secretary and Sura Jena BKMU state secretary addressed among others in the protest meeting and condemned in strong words the reign of terror let loose by the ruling Party in the state in general and in Chhatrapur in particular where in they are determined to finish the democratic movement and protest by political parties in democratic manner, they alleged. And they declared that the assassination of Com Sakura Behera cant eliminate the Communist movement in Ganjam District. They said the involvement of the local influential ruling party BJD leaders can not be ruled out so there is an apprehension that Odisha police can not be impartial so CM should handover the case to CBI. The above mentioned leaders of CPI including Rajeevlochan Panda , Brundaban Polei and Nilakantha Das three zonal secretaries of CPI in a delegation handed over a memorandum to the District Collector addressed to the Chief Minster. The delegation raised three demands in the memorandum such as CBI inquiry to the cold blooded political murder of Sakura Behera, immediate arrest of the murderers and their mentors and curtailing of the Law and order situation in Ganjam district which is gone out of control as it was admitted in the white paper presented in the Odisha Assembly day before yesterday which stated that the crime rate in this home district of the Chief Minister is the highest as compared to other districts of the state.
