More than one side to this story: Hotels want local goods to be marketed to them more aggressively But: Is government fostering the correct business environment within which this can happen? Are hotel purchasers receptive to local goods? Are hotels treating local account payables with high priority, knowing the financial pressure suppliers face? Is the JMA fostering manufacturing cooperatives to help give locals the production capacity and price edge for large quantity sales? Is the JAS fostering similar marketing approaches for farmers? ANYONE DOING THE RIGHT THING? Latest News Local manufacturers urged to be more aggressive Last Updated: 52 minutes ago Local manufacturers are being encouraged to follow the example of Jamaican hoteliers and become more aggressive in the marketing of their products. Head of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, Nicola Madden Greig, notes that many times there are complaints that players in the tourism sector do not support local manufacturers. However, she says in many instances hoteliers are unaware that certain products can be sourced locally because of poor marketing by manufacturers. Madden Greig says hoteliers are usually very aggressive in their marketing, going overseas to meet directly with travel agencies and other partners to inform them of their offerings. Madden Greig says manufacturers should follow this example. Madden Greig was speaking this morning on Real Business against the backdrop of the Linkages Project spearheaded by the tourism ministry to facilitate networking between industry players and local suppliers. Head of the Jamaica manufacturers Association, Brian Pengelley, says he is very pleased about the opportunity to have manufacturers and hoteliers talk about how they can support each others businesses. Pengelley says he will be ensuring that the talks are backed up by action on the part of manufacturers.
