More things keep coming to me. The Piggly Wiggly where you could buy Lonesome Pine sodas and Pinemont farms milk. Adele working the box office at the Lynwood and their vanilla cokes. The Ben Franklin downstairs where all the toys were. My grandma and Pauline Hatfield working to build the new library. The merengue pies at the Rainbow. The Record Shop down near the post office where I first fell in love with The Statler Brothers on 8-track. Snow days galore with no school. My mema pouring a little coffe and milk in a saucer for me when wed eat at the Dixie (every Sunday) unless we went to eat at the motel at Claypool Hill. When the New Mountain Players produced THE HANGING OF JOHN HARDIN. My crazy grandfather trying to buy the Pitcairn Island from Great Britain. Crazy coal truck drivers on kiss your ass curves going up Slate Creek. Granny Raines antique store and her amazing chicken and dumplings (if you never had them...). McLindys fast food restaurant which was a local love child of McDonalds and Wendys. Peg Legs at Long John Silvers. La Hacinda de Lupe up on Hoot Owl Mountain. The Pink Room restaurant which I think was up Deskins. Deskin Grocery Store which was the only thing other than the Pig. Going to the Mick or Mack to get butcher paper for finger painting. Going up into the woods behind Memas house up Slate Creek to get rich soil for her garden and plants. Copperheads. Living next door to my Mema, who was next door to my great grandmothers (Smith and Ratliff) and my great aunts Ming and Murt just as close. Cartoons at the Lynwood on Saturday mornings. Seeing HALLOWEEN, GREASE and STAR WARS at the Lynwood in their original releases. The old man that was always at the Church of Christ on Sunday morning even though he was still drunk from Saturday night and his goiter. Sneaking up in the balcony at the Chrliech of Christ at my Granny Smiths funeral to see her becaude my family wouldnt let me go up to her coffin to see her. I think about moving back a lot these days.
