Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such - TopicsExpress

Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: (Exodus 18:21 KJV) The LORD not only gave Moses the outline of a republican form of government, He also gave Moses a list of characteristics of those who were to serve as representatives in that government. Notice the order: 1) fear God - He wanted those who put God first in their personal lives because they would be able to hear His Wisdom of how to govern for the fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom. 2) men of truth - when a person fears or respects and honors The Lord then they will do the same to His Word. His Word is Wisdom, it is light, and it makes people free. 3) hating covetousness - the meaning is hating unjust gain. The Lord wants those in office who will not enrich themselves at the expense of others. Being in government is like being in the ministry and therefore is a position of service. When someone enriches themselves by taking money from others, ie taxation, then that is unjust. It is also unjust to use an office to enrich oneself. That person is using a job, that is paid with tax dollars, to make themselves wealthy. If The Lord gave us a republican form of government and the kind of people we should place in office, then shouldnt we listen and obey Him at election time? It is time for us to listen and obey for there is no other way.
