Morgan December of 2012 I got a call from a woman whose mother had a kennel that was being shut down. The state had already stepped in and killed 20 of her dogs and gave her until the end of January to get rid of the rest. Most were Shih Tzus, Pekinese, and a couple of Maltese. They had tried in vain to find another rescue but no one would take them because most were over 6 years old. I made arrangements to travel to the kennel in January. When I pulled in the driveway, I saw a ramshackle building almost hidden among the trees. There were wire runs protruding from the side of the building about 3 feet off the ground. They were approximately 2 feet x 2 feet x 3 feet long with a doggie door into the inside of the building where there was another 2 foot x 2 foot wire area. The part outside was covered with old wood with a door set into the ends so they could have access to the dogs. There were at least 2 10 to 15 pound dogs in each run. They had no heat and only shade in the summer. They were filthy and matted and terrified. The woman was in her 80’s and told me she had been “raising dogs” for 60 years in this building. As they loaded the last of the dogs in my truck, the daughter held up this tiny Yorkie and asked if I wanted her. I didn’t ask any questions, I just took her. She was also matted and filthy. We got her home, bathed her, cut all the knots off and low and behold, there was the sweetest little face and one of the most gorgeous Yorkies I had ever seen. She was totally cage crazy and spun constantly. She still does when she gets excited or wants something. She also has a severe luxating patella in her back leg but she only weighs 4 pounds so it doesn’t bother her. It was mutual love at first sight. She and little Macy are my riding buddies. They go on all the rescues with me and to all events that I can take them. Many of have you have met her and to know her is to love her. She was about 2 when we got her so we hope to have her a long time.
