Mornin all, didnt get much sleep last night, but I did get some - TopicsExpress

Mornin all, didnt get much sleep last night, but I did get some research done. I found out that the oil that I use on my boards, even though food grade, still has petroleum products in it. Ultimately, I want to have the safest and most natural products on my boards. A friend of mine is a bit of a health nut, but she recommended a safe substitute. So, I did some extended research on the subject. The product is Coconut oil, but not just any coconut oil. Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil the research I did revealed that Expeller Pressed coconut oil is one of few non-petroleum oils that wont go rancid. Expeller Pressed coconut oil is produced in tropical countries through physical refining. It is a cleaner way of producing the product rather than chemical refining using Hexane in the extraction process. I also found out that coconut oil has a natural antimicrobial property which makes it a potent germ killer. So, in short, I found my natural oil for my boards and to seal them I only need to make a homemade beeswax mixture. Luckily I had some in my cupboard, since my daughter has food allergies we tried it as a substitute to vegetable oil for cooking, but my daughter didnt like it. So, Im going to try it on my next batch of boards. I got oil on the custom board last night and it looks beautiful!! The burl maple just flows and really makes the board pop!! The hickory and cherry I used kind of breaks up the board to keep it from looking too busy. It was the perfect artistic marriage of wood!! ~ JT :)
