Morning Cup of Motivation GASOLINE or VASELINE: When I first went to pastor a small gathering of a church on the Western Slope of Colorado, the exterior of the building looked TERRIBLE! Although I didnt expect it to look like a building where a mega-church meets, HEY, a little paint doesnt cost THAT much money! REMEMBER, we DO represent the GREAT GOD of the universe so the building should look as good as possible! But I began in November and that close to the mountains, you cant do exterior painting until usually sometime in May. By the time May had rolled around, God had blessed us with substantial numerical growth! Because of that growth, we were able to have a Tuesday morning ladies Bible study. In the middle of this mix was the church janitor whom we affectionately refer to as GENE GENE, THE PAINTIN MACHINE! Gene was a lovable ole poop and tried hard but suffice it to say there numerous times in which his CLICK just didnt CLACK! Sure enough, one fateful, WINDY, Tuesday morning, GENE-GENE decides hell spray paint, DURING the womens Bible study with cars parked CLOSE to the building! Walking out to her car, Teresa saw Gene-Gene rubbing a towel around on her new Suburban. When she asked him what he was doing and his answer was, Im rubbing GASOLINE on to try and get the paint spots out, the expression on her face was one of shear FRIGHT! When we do or say something STUPID, rather than rub GASOLINE on the situation, its always better to rub VASELINE on by speaking the truth in LOVE! Maybe that VASELINE will be in the form of saying, Im sorry, I was wrong, will you forgive me? If those words are REAL HARD for you to say, please know that it doesnt mean youre rotten person, on the same level as the scumbag of the earth! It just means youre a big enough person to admit when youre wrong! If you know youve offended someone, youre walk with God will NOT be at all what it should be until you at least do what you CAN to make things right! Yes, the VASELINE of a gentle answer and a humble spirit may mean eating crow, but if you can be right with your fellow man and/or ESPECIALLY fellow woman AND God at the same time, youll be AMAZED at how your peace level goes UP and your anxiety goes DOWN! Peace verses constant turmoil...........I DUNNO, sounds like a no-brainer to me!
