Morning Facebook Friends.... 2 Timothy 3:1-5 Know this also, that in the last days grievous times will be at hand. For men will be self- lovers, money- lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unyielding, false accusers, without self- control, savage, despisers of good, traitors, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; even turn away from these. It seems to me that this passage of scripture could very well serve as an overlay for an article in a modern day publication describing the society in which we live..... In a recent USA Today article the following statistics give a vivid description of a pleasure and entertainment driven people; "Although there are more than 12.7 million Americans without a job, more than 1 million homes were foreclosed in 2011 (with an estimated 700,00 homes to be foreclosed this year), and the median family’s net worth dropped 39% ($77,000 in 2010 from 126,400 in 2007), Americans are addicted to their entertainment — and they are spending lavishly. Spending on entertainment and media in 2012 reached a whopping $490 billion and is expected to grow 5% over the next few years to reach $597 billion in 2016. Global spending on entertainment and media will reach $2.1 trillion. The following is a breakdown of these extravagances: Internet access: $81.5 billion Music (concerts, cds, mp3): $19.8 billion Movies (theater, dvd, downloads): $30.9 billion Television (subscriptions): $92.9 billion Books (paper and ebooks): $32.5 billion Games (console, mobile, online): $16.4 billion Magazines (paper and digital): $21.3 billion Newspapers (paper and digital): $9.7 billion One of the main reasons this is such a dangerous trend is that majority of modern media entertainment promotes, and even encourages, the attitudes and lifestyles described in the scriptures. It is quite obvious we are living in the midst of these "perilous times, and must 1) guard our own hearts.... Luke 21:34-36 "And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." 2) exhort others to be on guard... 1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" The seduction of the heart and mind is often gradual, so stay alert in this "untoward generation..... 1 Peter 4:7 "But the end of all things is at hand:be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer." Have A Great Monday !!
