Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt In the church, it is known as “The Great Commission”, but that is just a churchy way of describing a job description. It is very simple and very succinct, but it is garlic-breath strong in what it calls for. “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”(Matthew 28:18-19) I am going to summarize this job description in three words: Go Make Disciples. The word “disciple” simply means “follower.” Jesus was speaking to His followers then and to His followers now and what He was saying was this, “I want My followers to go find non-followers and turn them into followers.” To put it in a simpler fashion – Followers of Jesus make followers of Jesus. If you are not a follower of Jesus and you wonder why people invite you to church, you wonder why people tell you they are praying for you, you wonder why people want share their testimony with you, you wonder why people want to talk to you about your soul and about spiritual things it is because of what Jesus told them to do.
