Morning Musings from our minister Mary Cummins Wlodarski La cobija de los pobres, el sol. (Sandra Cisneros, from her novel Caramelo) I am still close enough to my English undergraduate work to remember the “intentional fallacy”, the danger of saying what the writer meant by her words. So humbly I offer my understanding of “The blanket of the poor, the sun”, the words from Ms. Cisneros. The phrase drives home, I believe, how many people in our world sleep unprotected from the elements and weather. But it also seems to me a reminder that we are all under the same blanket, one sun, sleeping on one surface, one earth. Today, as I write this, the sky is alternating between gray drizzling clouds and October blue skies. Out my window I can see folks strolling smiling (in the sunshine) or scurrying head down (in the light rain.) Whatever the changeable autumn weather we face this day, let us remember those who face the coming cold with only the cobija de los pobres. May all find comfort and protection. And that includes midterms! Contact Mary at [email protected] to receive a morning musings.
