Morning Prayer - The Holy Name • Opening Sentence Behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 • Collect ~ The Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ Eternal Father, you gave to your incarnate Son the holy name of Jesus to be the sign of our salvation: Plant in every heart, we pray, the love of him who is the Savior of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. • A Collect for Guidance Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For Mission Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. • For Families Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who places solitary persons in families: We commend to your continual care the homes in which your people dwell. Put far from them, we beseech you, every root of bitterness, the desire of vainglory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, and godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in marriage, have been made one flesh. Turn the hearts of the parents to the children, and the hearts of the children to the parents; and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we may evermore be kindly one to another; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • Hymn The Choir of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Covina, California singing Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee Jesus, the very thought of Thee With sweetness fills the breast; But sweeter far Thy face to see, And in Thy presence rest. Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame, Nor can the memory find A sweeter sound than Thy blest Name, O Savior of mankind! O hope of every contrite heart, O joy of all the meek, To those who fall, how kind Thou art! How good to those who seek! But what to those who find? Ah, this Nor tongue nor pen can show; The love of Jesus, what it is, None but His loved ones know. Jesus, our only joy be Thou, As Thou our prize will be; Jesus be Thou our glory now, And through eternity. O Jesus, King most wonderful Thou Conqueror renowned, Thou sweetness most ineffable In Whom all joys are found! When once Thou visitest the heart, Then truth begins to shine, Then earthly vanities depart, Then kindles love divine. O Jesus, light of all below, Thou fount of living fire, Surpassing all the joys we know, And all we can desire. Jesus, may all confess Thy Name, Thy wondrous love adore, And, seeking Thee, themselves inflame To seek Thee more and more. Thee, Jesus, may our voices bless, Thee may we love alone, And ever in our lives express The image of Thine own. O Jesus, Thou the beauty art Of angel worlds above; Thy Name is music to the heart, Inflaming it with love. Celestial Sweetness unalloyed, Who eat Thee hunger still; Who drink of Thee still feel a void Which only Thou canst fill. O most sweet Jesus, hear the sighs Which unto Thee we send; To Thee our inmost spirit cries; To Thee our prayers ascend. Abide with us, and let Thy light Shine, Lord, on every heart; Dispel the darkness of our night; And joy to all impart. Jesus, our love and joy to Thee, The virgin’s holy Son, All might and praise and glory be, While endless ages run.
