Morning, The day of your job interview If you are currently employed, and you are going for an employment interview, there are some important points to remember in respect of your clothes. Often people who never wear suites or ties to work wear them on the day of the interview. This is a dead give away that you are going for an interview. For the ladies it is less obvious. They can attend work on the day of the interview in whatever they feel comfortable. For the men if you are going to the interview from work, leave your tie and jacket in your car or put it in a gym bag. It is fairly easy and quick to put on a tie. A common mistake that some men make is to arrive at work wearing a tie. They then go out for a period during the day and return without their tie on. This immediately suggests where they have been and what they have been up to. Many people ask the question: “So what if my current employer knows that I am going to an interview?” The first thing that will happen is that their immediate supervisor or manager begins to lose faith in them, as they know they are looking around and are likely to leave sometime in the near future. The company concerned will not invest money in an employee who will be leaving them soon as they will get nothing in return for their investment. There is also a good chance that you will be overlooked for any promotion opportunity that may arise. An interview is confidential, so keep it that way. This is the reason that companies don’t have applicants who have applied for the same position all sitting together waiting for an interview. It is very seldom that applicants get to see each other. As an applicant, you generally have no idea of who you are competing against. If possible put in annual leave for the day. Then no one will pick up on the fact you are going for an interview.
