Morning all - Hope everyone remembered the clock change? - Anyway, a couple of interesting things to get my teeth into today. We will have some ridiculously warm upper air temperatures for a while this week. Now these dont always translate to heat at ground level, but given any shelter and some sun, we could be pushing some date records, especially on Tuesday which is where things peak. We remain broadly influenced by tropical maritime winds from the south-west. The problem being that it can lead to a lot of low cloud and drizzle so sunshine can be at a premium. Meanwhile, spare a thought for north-west Scotland. A combination of slow moving weather fronts, huge amounts of moisture and orographic uplift could see some extraordinary amounts of rainfall on the south and west facing hills and mountains over the next 36 hours or so. I have seen estimates up to 200mm (8 inches) of rain and that process has already started. Elsewhere the obsession with winter cold is gathering pace. If you go onto any of the main internet weather forums there will doubtless be threads relating to the coming season and the prospects of snow. TWO has an interesting one concerning OPI which I believe stands for October Pattern Index. All you need to know about that is it means the relationship between October and the coming winter. Some believe there is a link, I think the weather is way to chaotic to prove anything at that range. Dear old Sriram had started another thread, this one about the weather being boring. I have commented on this already. It isnt(IMO). I suggest he moves to a place where there is little or no variation before stating that! We have one of the most varied weather regimes in the world thanks to our position geographically ;)
