Morning all :) Firstly, I detect a certain amount of criticism aimed at forecasters for the way yesterdays events unfolded. The problem that forecasters had was that the low pressure moved across the area, rather than just throwing bands of rain from afar, which is a much more straightforward scenario. When a low spirals across like it did then the rain bearing fronts get wrapped around the feature meaning that predicting where and how much rain will fall becomes far more complicated. Add to that the effect of clearer skies, instability and associated solar input, we then had the additional factor of heavy showers and thunderstorms breaking out late in the afternoon. This all led to wide variations across the country, something which was difficult for forecasters to convey with accuracy, especially given the broad brush approach that time constraints create on them.
