Morning all, a little light on history today so well have a little - TopicsExpress

Morning all, a little light on history today so well have a little more etymology for you. Derby, as most of you know, is probably derived from the Danish version of Derventio, meaning settlement by the water, from which the Derwent gets its name; although it is also argued it means settlement where the deer lived. Both of those are preferable to Nottingham, which was originally called Snottingham - or the place belonging to Snot. Lovely. At least it explains why they have a ready supply of tissues... Were off to Blackpool shortly, which derives its name from the peaty bog that spills into the Irish Sea - but did you know, on the other side of the water, Dublin also means exactly that? Dubh was old Gaelic for black and Linn was pool, hence Dublin is Blackpool. We have food and drinks available now for those joining us, whereas for those who cant well have live sport through the day, including Chelsea v PSG tonight. Cheers!
