Morning and a grand one it is! As you probably know I have taken on the role of Women’s Officer and figured a little introduction is in order. I’ve been a member of SCC for just over a year, albeit more on the side lines until recently. The more I cycled with SCC the more I wanted to be involved in this great club. For me there is nothing more motivating that going out with a group of people, it certainly makes the miles slip away. I’m quite new to cycling, purchasing my first bike just under 4 years ago. Cycling just 10 miles was daunting back then, if it hadn’t been for a few encouraging people I would most likely have never plucked up the courage to go on a group ride and take those first steps. As Women’s Officer not only will I be here as support for any ladies in the club but to also encourage those who have perhaps not taken those first steps in joining this friendly bunch of cyclist on a ride. Whether it be simply starting out with a ‘getting back in the saddle ride’ or for those of you who have been firm GBIT riders all summer to now progress and join the regular social rides, the support will be there for that transition to be made. I will be looking to set a date in October for a women’s only ride. The distance can be tailored to accommodate a cross section of abilities and I will welcome any support from other female riders in the club if more than one group is needed.
