Morning update from the NWS Jacksonville for Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia: Concerning severe weather potential today and evening: Synopsis & Timing A pre-frontal band of strong to severe thunderstorms will move into the interior portions of southeast Georgia this afternoon around the 2 to 5 pm time frame. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire North Florida and Southeast Georgia region in a slight risk area for severe thunderstorms, with the highest threat for damaging winds still appears to be across the interior portions of southeast Georgia and the Suwannee River Valley of Northeast Florida this mid to late afternoon when the leading band of thunderstorms moves in. The leading band of convection may slow its progression late this afternoon with strong gusty winds being the primary threat with the embedded stronger to severe thunderstorms as the line transitions and progresses to the southeast through the remainder of area this evening and tonight. A watch for these thunderstorms may be issued later today and warnings may be necessary at some point over the next 6 to 18 hours. Although damaging winds gusts will be the primary threat, large hail and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Widespread rainfall amounts of one to two inches are expected with this event, but locally higher amounts will occur where training occurs. The rainfall and thunderstorms will linger during the morning daylight hours Tuesday primarily over the coastal counties as the line pushes offshore into the adjacent Atlantic waters. Impacts Thunderstorms: Strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon over the Suwannee Valley and interior portions of southeast Georgia starting around 2 pm through the evening hours while the line tracks eastward through the region overnight. There may be some embedded bowing segments and supercells in the line of showers and thunderstorms. Gusty winds will be the main and primary hazard with hail and isolated tornadoes feasible with the most potent storms. Slight risk of severe storms continues with low level winds and upper jet increasing in strength. Rainfall: Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected between this afternoon through Tuesday morning with this convective line. Locally higher amounts are possible, around the 3 to 5 inch range, in some of the thunderstorm activity as some training may occur in concert with the increase of appreciable moisture moving into the region. Some localized flooding may occur on streets, with some area rivers responding to this added rainfall within a few days.
