#MorningDevotion Crossing a Flooded Jordan Joshua and the whole Israelite community have already seen the Promised Land. The 2 spies have already confirmed that they can take the land and the inhabitants are already fearful. Looks like it’s a done deal and the Israelites have everything going for them….right? Joshua 3:14-17 14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea ) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. When God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, they had to cross the red sea and that was quite the experience for them. I am sure they told this story to their children describing what God had done for them. Now their children have to enter into the land of promise and guess what? They have to do their own crossing. You cannot operate on someone else’s faith and experience. When their fathers crossed the red sea, Moses held up the rod, God parted the waters and the Israelites crossed on dry ground. This time round the experience is not the same. Though God has confirmed that the land is theirs to take and though they have confirmed this by the testimony of the two spies God still brings them to a flooded river and He tells them to cross! You would think that because God is for them He will make the process easier. The road to your promised land always has a flooded Jordan River for you to cross. We walk by faith and not by sight because what we see may not represent the true picture. Though what they saw was a flooded river, as soon as the feet of the priests touched the water the truth was that God held up the waters upstream but they only experienced that as they walked in obedience. Which flooded river is God leading you to walk through? Do not be afraid just like in Joshua’s story, the priests went first in faith and as soon as their feet touched the water the miracle happened. You and I are kings and priests unto our God (Rev 1:6.) They carried the presence of God in the ark, while for us Jesus lives in our hearts and our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Yes you have the assurance of victory but you still have to do the walking and cross your Jordan River though it is at the flooding stage. Do not look at the natural… get into the water.
