Moroccan authorities arrest and try to prevent Saharawi journalists from attending workshop in Stockholm This morning, at 6:00 a.m., the Moroccan authorities arrested the Sahrawi journalist Mohamed Saleh Berkan in the Casablanca airport and informed him that he is banned from travelling. Our colleagues Mohamed Berkan and Mamine Hachimi intended to travel to Stockholm – Sweden via Copenhagen - Denmark to participate in a workshop organized by Emmaus Stockholm. The Moroccan authorities released the Sahrawi journalist Mohamed Saleh Berkan after arresting him for one hour and a half in the airport of Casablanca. Our colleague was interrogated by Moroccan police officers who informed him that he is banned from travelling. After one hour and a half they released him and he could join his colleague Mamine El Qaid Hachimi on the plane with destination to Copenhagen – Denmark to take part in a workshop sponsored and organized by EMMAUS Stockholm. We recall that Berkan Mohamed is a journalist in Media Team who was arrested in September17, 2009 and condemned to one year in prison on the grounds of having filmed a peaceful demonstration and was attacked by the Moroccan occupying forces in the main headquarters of Maatala. He has been a victim for several times of Moroccan police attacks, and in April 27, 2013, he was beaten by a Moroccan police patrol which confiscated his camera. Mamine Hachimi, another member of Media Team, was kidnapped in January 17, 2011, and spent a week in custody before being released. The Moroccan authorities accused Mamine of being one among the media responsible for the camp of Akdeim Izik.
