Moroka Swallows on-loan striker Edward Manqele is bitterly disappoined after his proposed move to Kaizer Chiefs failed to happen during the transfer window. Manqele admits he was craving a move to the Premiership champions but with his club coach Zeca Marques confirming that he is staying, the stocky forward must now make peace with spending the rest of the season at Swallows. READ: Zeca: Manqeles staying put The 26-year-old is on a season-long loan to the Dube Birds from Mamelodi Sundowns. “I have known for a while that Chiefs want me and I think they did make a proposal to Sundowns so we have been waiting for their response, but they have been quiet, Manqele tells KickOff. I don’t know what is happening there but the feeling I get is that they didn’t want to release me. What I know is that they [Sundowns] have been communicating with my agent and from what I am getting, Sundowns has not really been forthright. Evidently sad that the move to Chiefs will not be happening for now, Manqele is faced with the reality of having to maintain his focus despite having had his head turned during the mid-season break. “For me it is sad because going to Chiefs would have been a great career move and an opportunity to grow, but if Sundowns is refusing then that means I have to honour the contract I have until it ends, he continues. But it is sad. For now I just have to accept that this is how football is and I have to concentrate on the job at hand here at Swallows. For me, I really wanted to move on. Manqele will now have to spearhead the Swallows attack on Friday night at Dobsonville Stadium against the same Chiefs that he had been keen on joining.
