MISSION & OBJECTIVE To promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding among nations and to develop further cooperation among filmmakers of the world. The Moscow International Film Festival is recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). The Festival program includes only films which have not been publicly screened on the territory of the Russian Federation (excluding retrospectives and the program of Russian films). ABOUT THE FESTIVAL Over the past decades the popularity and influence of the Moscow International Film Festival on the world filmmaking process have grown significantly. During this years prizes were awarded to outstanding masters of world cinema – Akira Kurosawa and Stanley Kramer, Federico Fellini and Ettore Scola, Andrzej Wajda and Francesco Rosi, Krzysztof Zanussi and Damiano Damiani, Gleb Panfilov and Sergei Gerasimov, Bernard Blier and Alexandr Rogozhkin. MIFF has a lot to pride itself on. It paved the way for filmmakers who later became known throughout the world like István Szabó and Kaneto Shindo, Krzysztof Kieslowski and Aki Kaurismäki, Kohei Oguri and Humberto Solás. Undoubtedly many films screened in competition of the 34th MIFF, like “Magnificient Presence”, “The Horde”, documentaries “Searching For Sugarman ”,Colors of Math, and others became an event in modern cinema. Moscow International Film Festival honoured remarkable representatives of the acting profession. Over the years the prize “I Believe. Konstantin Stanislavsky” for acting achievements was awarded to Jack Nicholson and Jeanne Moreau, Meryl Streep and Harvey Keitel, Fanny Ardant and Daniel Olbrychski, Gérard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert, Emmanuelle Béart, Helen Mirren and Catherine Deneuve. In 2013 this prize was awarded to the outstanding Russian actress - Ksenia Rappoport. Being awarded last years to such great film masters as Takeshi Kitano, Claude Lelouch, Rezo Chkheidze, Alexey Batalov, Tatyana Samoylova, John Malkovich and Tim Burton, 35th MIFF special prize for the Outstanding Contribution To The World Cinema went to Costa Gavras. More than 7500 guests from all over the world attended the 35th MIFF, including noted filmmakers, journalists, film critics. The number of journalists who are accredited at the festival, is steadily rising and exceeded three thousand. The guests could enjoy a varied program of more than 200 movies from 50 countries. For many years and now Moscow International Film Festival is presided by the Russian director and actor Nikita Mikhalkov. June19 - June 28, 2014 General provisions Article 1 To promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding among nations and to develop further cooperation among filmmakers of the world, the 36th Moscow International Film Festival ( MIFF) will be held in Moscow in the period of June 19 - June 28, 2014. The Moscow International Film Festival is recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). Organization Article 2 The 36th Moscow International Film Festival is held under support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Festival program Article 3 The program of the Festival will include: Main Competition Documentary Competition Short Films Competition Program of Russian films Non-competition screening Retrospective screening Article 4 The films for the Festival program are selected by the Selection Committee of the Festival. Entry applications for the 36th Moscow International Film Festival should be done via on-line system Withoutabox (withoutabox). The Regular Deadline for entries is April 1st, 2014, the Extended Deadline is April 4th, 2014. Official notification date is the day of Official Press-Conference of the Festival. The Festival program includes only films which have not been publicly screened in the territory of the Russian Federation (excluding Retrospectives and the Program of Russian films). The film screening schedule will be determined by the General Management of the 36th MIFF. Each film may be shown not more than five times during the Festival, including press screenings. Article 5 Only full-length feature films produced after May 01, 2013 will be accepted for the Competition programs (except Short Films Competition). Preference in the Competition programs is given to the World and International premieres. Not less than 12 films will participate in the Main Competition of the 36th Moscow International Film Festival. Films in standard 35 mm or DCP format may participate in the Main Competition program of the Festival. Not less than 7 films will participate in the Documentary Competition of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival. Films of Documentary Competition are exhibited in format DCP or HDCam. Short films produced in 2012 and 2013 with the duration not more then 35 minutes are accepted for the Short Films Competition. Films of Short Films Competition are exhibited in format DCP or HDCam. Screening prints of the films accepted for the Competition programs of the Festival should be on original language and with English subtitles, if the original language is not English. Prints of the films accepted for the Competition programs of the Festival should be in possession of the General Management of the 35th MIFF before June 01, 2014. Article 6 Films in their original format of creation: 35 mm or DCP format and films on the appropriate video carriers may participate in other programs of the Festival. Prints of the films accepted for the demonstration in other Festival sections should be in possession of the General Management of the 36th MIFF before June 01, 2014. Article 7 All conditions and suggested dates are obligatory otherwise the Management of the 36th MIFF has the right to exclude the film from the Festival program. Documentation Article 8 Duly filled in and signed Entry-form for each film, confirming the participation in the 36th MIFF should arrive before June 01, 2014. Entry-form must be accompanied by the following documentation: • The dialogue list in the original language and in one of the following languages: Russian, English; • The list of subtitles in English; • Synopsis, press and promotional materials; • Excepts from the film and trailers; • Materials for the festival catalogue, including a detailed biography and filmography of the director, a directors photo as well as slides from the film. Transportation and insurance of prints Article 9 The General Management of the 36th MIFF will assume all costs connected with the transportation of prints of the films selected for Competition programs to the Festival and back (AIRPORT of sender-Moscow-AIRPORT of recipient). The General Management of the 36th MIFF will assume all costs connected with the transportation of the film prints of other Festival sections from Moscow to AIRPORT of recipient. The General Management of the 36th MIFF will cover all the expenses connected with the storage and insurance of the films during the Festival. Guests Article 10 All the issues connected with the invitation of guests, the terms of their stay and the accreditation at the Festival will be settled by the General Management of the 36th MIFF. Every film in the Main Competition should be personally presented by 2 delegates (a director, an actor/actress). Every film in the Documentary Competition and Short Films Competition should be personally presented by 1 delegate (a director). The General Management of the 36h MIFF will cover the following expenses: - a round-trip tickets and up to 4-day hotel accommodation for 2 (two) representatives of the films in Main Competition (a director, an actor/actress); - a round-trip tickets and up to 4-day hotel accommodation for 1 (one) representative of the films in Documentary Competition (a director); - up to 4-day hotel accommodation for 1 (one) representative of the films in Short Films Competition (a director). Hospitality terms for other official guests of the Festival shall be indicated in their personal invitations. Applications for participation should be sent within the dead-line settled by the General Management of 36th MIFF. Juries Article 11 The International Jury of Main Competition (the Grand Jury) and the International Jury of Documentary Competition will be set up to judge the films in the Competition programs. Short Films Competition is judged by the International Jury of Main Competition. The General Management of the 36th MIFF will cover round-trip tickets and hotel accommodation for each Grand Jury member and an accompanying person. The General Management of the 36th MIFF will cover round-trip tickets and hotel accommodation for each member of Jury of the Documentary Competition. Persons connected with the production or commercial distribution of a film in competition are not allowed to serve for the corresponding Jury. Participation of a producer in each Jury is obligatory. Prizes Article 12 The Grand Jury will award the following prizes - Statuettes of St George: • Main prize for the Best Film (goes to the producer); • Special Jury prize (awarded in accordance with the Jurys decision) • Prize for the Best Director • Prize for the Best Actor • Prize for the Best Actress The Grand Jury will also award the Prize for the best film of Short Films Competition. The Jury of the Documentary Competition will award: • Prize for the best film. The Organizing Committee and Festival General Management of the 36th MIFF award the following prizes: • Special Prize for an outstanding contribution to the world cinema • Special prize «I Believe. K.Stanislavsky» for the outstanding achievement in the career of acting, and devotion to the principles of K.Stanislavskys school. The following prizes are also given at the Festival: • Prize of the International film critics jury (FIPRESCI Jury) for the best film in the Main Competition (goes to the director) • Prizes of the Russian film critics jury for the best film in the Main Competition (goes to director) • The Audience Choice Award for the best film in the Main Competition following the audience polls results (goes to the director) • Prize of the Russian Film Clubs Federation for the best film in the Main Competition (goes to the director). It is expected that the winners will personally attend the Award Ceremonies. Final provisions Article 13 Participation in the MIFF shall presume observation of all articles of the present Regulations. In case of any disputes which may arise out of the present Regulations, only the Russian-language variant of the present Regulations is considered authentic. General Management of the 35th MIFF has the power to settle all cases and issues not covered by these Regulations according to the clauses of the International Regulations of FIAPF for Film Festivals.
