Moses and his followers 2/67 to 2/82 1. I have always have the impression or at least that is the way I have been made to understand....that the story of the request made by prophet Moses to his followers to slaughter the cow is seprate from the story of one slain body found in the field nearby and no one came forward for the crime. Then we are told about the refusal of the followers on the pretax of asking for more details about the lembu regarding age, color and the like from Moses. 2. In the end they slaughtered the lembu with much disgust. Moses asked them to use part of the flesh of the lembu to beat the dead body which came to life instantly and thus revealed who exactly killed him. And the case was resolved finally. 3. Following such story, we are told that instead of them (certain followers) becoming more humble and felt sorry (as Allah is more knowing on everything they do) they became more stone hearted and continued to be more sombong by continuing to manipulate the Scriptures, hiding he correct ayat and writing their own interpretation and claimed that it came from Allah while fully knowing otherwise. They also claimed that they would not be touched by the Fire. 4. The rebuttal from Allah was swift that at no time Allah had made any promise to them for such exemption and that His promise will run through for anyone that has rejected or manipulated His words. As I was saying...I had always thought the 2 stories to be independent of each other. After reading it many times I came to understand that it is related. The refusal to slaughter the lembu was more of a pretax to resolve the murder. But one can feel the annoyance generated from such asking on details of the lembu from the people concerned. I wonder how many readers disagree with me. There are so much lesson we can gain from such a tale. Allah is greater than Great.
