Moses at the burning bush-Ex. 3:1-6 Moses was a Hebrew who was - TopicsExpress

Moses at the burning bush-Ex. 3:1-6 Moses was a Hebrew who was raised in the home of an Egyptian for 40 years of his life. He then spent 40 years of his life as a fugitive in the land of Midian. Moses had to flee Egypt because he killed an Egyptian who was cruelly mistreating an Israelite. God uses people who have a heart that can be touched and warmed by God. A heart that responds to God is hard to explain. A heart that responds to God is a heart that is open to a glimpse of the wonder of God. The ‘wonder’ of God is all around us in His creation. There is a sense of wonder when we look at the beauty of creation. God draws us to Himself through His creation when we take time to stop and look. Moses was drawn to the burning bush because he saw something odd in nature. In the 1990’s Tia Sillers and Mark Sanders wrote a song called, “I Hope You Dance”. Tia Sillers wrote the lyrics when she was going through a hard time. She took time to go to the ocean and just look at nature and its wonder. from songwriteruniverse For I Hope You Dance, I had written the opening line, I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, recalled Sillers. I had just broken up with someone, going through a brutal divorce. I needed to get away, so I went to a beach on the Florida Gulf Coast. Sitting on the beach and reflecting about the break-up, I felt so small and inconsequential. But out of this difficult time came the inspiration to write I Hope You Dance. As I was leaving the beach, I remember thinking that things werent really so bad, that I would get through it. Thats when I came up with the line, I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean. God also draws us to Him when we experience empathy for another person. Empathy is hurting when another person is hurting. Moses had a heart of empathy for the Hebrew slave that was mistreated. He immediately helped the man. Exodus 3:1-6 On an ordinary day Moses experienced God. After that experience his life changed. Moses listened to the messenger of God. He also responded to God is awe and reverence. He feared God. To fear God shows reverence because of God’s infinite power as the creator of the earth and all that walks and breathes on the earth. How did you wake up today? Was your heart filled with the wonder of today or the dread of today? God can take the dread of today and turn it into wonder. God will lead us and guide us into truth when we open the ‘eyes of our hearts.’ As you read this account of Moses’ account of his experience with God think about how you might feel or have felt in the presence of God’s glory. Ex. 3:1-6-Standing In the Presence of God 3:1 Moses was taking care of the flock for his father-in-law Jethro, Midian’s priest. He led his flock out to the edge of the desert, and he came to God’s mountain called Horeb. 2 The LORD’s messenger appeared to him in a flame of fire in the middle of a bush. Moses saw that the bush was in flames, but it didn’t burn up. 3 Then Moses said to himself, Let me check out this amazing sight and find out why the bush isn’t burning up. 4 When the LORD saw that he was coming to look, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” Moses said, “I’m here.” 5 Then the LORD said, “Don’t come any closer! Take off your sandals, because you are standing on holy ground.” 6 He continued, “I am the God of your father, Abraham’s God, Isaac’s God, and Jacob’s God.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God. My prayer for you today is that you take time to focus on God and the beauty of His creation around you. You can see God’s handiwork in the beauty of the earth, the laughter of a baby, a call from a good friend and above all…God’s Word recorded in scripture. We can stand on Holy ground when we focus on God’s glory. Love in Christ, Pat https://youtube/watch?v=ZtI1GWHKJ64
