Most Missourians know a Veto session is coming soon (early Sept.) - TopicsExpress

Most Missourians know a Veto session is coming soon (early Sept.) where the Legislature has a chance to override Gov. Nixons vetoes of various bills they have put forth. I realized there is little love lost between our legislature which has a Republican majority, and our Democratic Governor. Lots of figures have been tossed about - many very large, and because they are so big, may seem exaggerated. I heard tonite at our school board meeting that Dade County - where I live, could lose about $100,000 directly in funding if these vetoes, many of which are about various cuts in taxes, are over-ridden. While this money would not end up directly in our schools, it does impact us in an indirect but important way - transportation. Our school busses travel county roads every day. The loss of this $100,000 would likely affect road maintenance which ... you can see where this might go. So to two of my Facebook friends - Eric Burlison, and Bob Dixon, before you vote to override those vetoes, please drive our county roads - I know, I know, you dont live in our very rural county but perhaps think about driving those roads and then imagine what the loss of $100,000 might do to a small countys road maintenance budget. I plan to contact my personal state elected representatives as well and share this same message. Im sure buried in all the vetoed legislation are other issues that are bigger, more important and more costly etc. but this is at least one that can be seen and felt, eventually by our children.
