Most are aware that 50 years ago today John F Kennedy was assasinated. Much of the coverage this week has been on that terrible day in Dallas. But it is important to remember that this man who was only President for 1000 days accomplished so much. He enhanced Americas standing in the world in many ways, through his support of West Berlin after the buidling of the Berlin Wall. He initiatied the security ties with Israel that are a given today. He Created the Peace Corps, and succesfully entered into the first Partial Nuclear Testing treaty with the Soviet Union. He created the Alliance for Progress which prevented communist expansion in Latin America. He prevented Soviet Nuclear Missles ever being placed in the Western Hemisphere. He put America on the road to landing men on the moon. He stood up to Southern Governers and involved the Federal Justice System on Civil Rights Issues like had never been done before. No President including JFK has been perfect but our Nation and the World is much better off for the 1000 days he was ours.
