Most athletes wouldnt play their sport without first loosening up or stretching the muscles. In learning to visualize, it is also very important to “warm up” the part of the brain that is responsible for visualizing—the visual cortex. Scientists have discovered that certain eye movements will stimulate the visual cortex making it more receptive to mental images producing clearer, more emotionally charged visions. These eye movements are simple and should be performed at the start of each visualization session. Simply keep your chin level to the ground while rolling your eyes upward to look at the sky or ceiling. Then move your eyes repeatedly back and forth from left to right for 10 seconds while continuing to look upward. There, wasnt that easy? You have now activated the visual areas of the brain and are ready to proceed.
