Most (but not all) of you will have noticed that New Years Eve is - TopicsExpress

Most (but not all) of you will have noticed that New Years Eve is over, so I should have posted this a few days ago. Unusually for a musician, I wasnt working this year; I decided to take the night off to spend with my family and some family friends to mark a special occasion. Exactly 20 years ago, on 31 December 1994, I set foot in England as a resident. I never thought Id stay for more than a few years, but as usual, life had a way of complicating things, and not at all in a bad way. Ive met more amazing people than I ever could have imagined, and am humbled to say that I have more close friends than most people will ever amass in a lifetime - this is one of the greatest perks of the closely knit musical society we have in this country. I consider myself unbelievably fortunate to have stumbled into it, and even more fortunate to have been accepted into it by so many great people and artists. I have the fortune to be surrounded by some of the best musicians in the entire world (and thats no exaggeration) - I certainly never imagined that when I started playing the sousaphone in my junior high school band at the age of 12. I have a couple more major anniversaries to mark this year, so Ill save some of my sentimental waffling for those, but I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone Ive met over the past 20 years here, and to say that Im available for weddings, parties, and bar mitzvahs.
