Most cops are good. 99.9 per cent at least. These cops were bad. Obviously. And HRM is as bad (for condoning their actions), as are the various organizations that could have set this right. When a cop is bad, its worse than an ordinary citizen being bad -- because the victim has no recourse and the cop goes unpunished. You cant protect yourself from a bad cop because that in itself becomes a crime. There is no possible scenario in which what that cop did was right. The public should be outraged, the cop punished and fired (the same punishment you or I would receive for break and enter, aggravated assault, false arrest, and possibly unlawful confinement), the municipality should be sued to the hilt, and more than legal bills covered. Time to weed out bad cops. Zero tolerance.
