Most days, I remember Pop with a smile on my face. But - TopicsExpress

Most days, I remember Pop with a smile on my face. But occasionally, when I watch a baseball movie such as Bang the Drum Slowly, Fear Strikes Out, or 42 (which my dad would have loved, being a huge Branch Rickey fan), I tear up. As these pictures show, Pop absolutely *loved* baseball. The group pic is the Pawnee ball team (1945), with my dad and uncle Ed in the middle, and the Army pic is Pop while stationed in Korea with the 96th Field Artillery Battalion (early spring, 1954). He was known around home as the Pawnee Flash, as he had (to other teams) an annoying habit of hitting opposite field for a single, and when the left fielder threw the ball in lazily he would turn it into a double.
