Most male performers dont wear make-up on stage. Most female performers do. I think about this while I pack up the make-up bag for later, and check my coin purse for money to buy another pack of makeup removing towelettes. We are all doing our stuff under the same lights, the same technical pressures. It _isnt_ just about making sure people can see your features, or everyone would be asked to do it as a matter of course. It is about gendered expectations for decorating the world.
