Most musician interviews include the question, who were your influences? As a guitarist I have stolen so many things from so many great players that its hard to name a handful, but as a musician few bands have provided me more inspiration and enjoyment as Allman Brothers Band. Last night was the end of a 40-year road strewn with magical jams, tragedy and struggles with addiction and health. I saw Gregg Allman in a club in Providence around 1984, and we waited to shake his hand. It took two guys holding him up to get him to the bus. A couple years later he finally kicked the heroin and walked firmly back into the limelight with Im No Angel, to this day one of my faves of his. No doubt the demons played a big role in the music, but for all the incredible music they gave us from the original supernova that was the Fillmore East, to the current lineup fueled by Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes, I am grateful.
