Most nonessential movie sequels (as opposed to a pre-set saga like “The Hobbit” or “The Hunger Games”) are generally a repackaging of story themes with added character development and excess production value. While “22 Jump Street” meets these standard requirements, it utilizes the best of what the 2012 film offered so well that it would be unfair to argue that one movie is superior to the other. “22 Jump Street” functions beautifully with its predecessor by remaining a meticulously balanced in its assembly, henceforth delivering humor that is on par to the high standards set two years ago. While Richard Donner’s “Lethal Weapon” franchise is classic 1980’s – “22 Jump Street” sets the new standard of the best within the buddy-cop genre. As was the prequel, its is fully aware of an audience jaded towards ridiculous social standards, and doesnt hesitate to mock them.
