Most of our A-Level Secondary Schools have no science laboratories - TopicsExpress

Most of our A-Level Secondary Schools have no science laboratories and are currently experiencing a shortage of over 5,000 science teachers (yes, science teachers only). Yet, weve just made history with 2014 Form Six Exam Results showing that students passed with flying colours in science subjects; Agriculture (99.7%), Biology (97.57), Advanced Mathematics (89.4%), Physics (78.41%) and Chemistry (95.78). Is this what we should expect in the current worsening situation in our system with a shortage of approx 60,000 teachers in government schools alone? Can we remind ourselves that only 4 out of 10 Standard 7 pupils in Tanzania can read and understand simple paragraphs in English and Kiswahili and perform the basic arithmetic expected of a Standard 2 pupil? I do believe in miracles but how do you get 95.98% pass rate in this situation?
