Most of the illegal fences that farmers erected in the Omatako - TopicsExpress

Most of the illegal fences that farmers erected in the Omatako valley area of the Tsumkwe Constituency of the Otjozondjupa Region remain intact. This is despite repeated appeals from the state that the farmers who erected the fences must remove them voluntarily or face their removal by the state at their cost. A delegation, led by the Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Communal Land Board, Jeane Kuhanga, is visiting the area to assess the situation and ascertain how many settlers have voluntarily removed their illegal fences. Kuhanga says out of the more than 100 illegal fences erected in the area, only more than 30 fences have been removed voluntarily so far. She notes that out of the total farmers served with notices, only 27 of them have appealed and appeared at a tribunal hearing, while 33 are yet to be served with the notices. Kuhanga has expressed appreciation with the positive response shown by those who removed their illegal fences. She points out that the Attorney-Generals office has been approached to prepare a court order to be served on those who have failed to comply.
