Most of the people my age in Southeastern Oklahoma will know about the old low water Glover River Bridge. It was an old concrete bridge across the Glover River. Most of the year one could drive across with no problems. The Glover is prone to flooding after rains and the bridge could get dangerous in a hurry. When I was in high school one night I drove a car full of kids across it, when it was up. I had no brakes all the way to Idabel. Boy was that stupid. When I was in high school I worked, when I got off if I could not find any other work to do to make a buck and if it was light outside I would go fishing to try to put food on the table. I was down at the Glover low water bridge fishing when a city man came driving up in a fancy car and started dragging fishing stuff out of his car. He came down to me and told me that he had never fished before and asked me to help him. I was sitting there fishing with an old Zebco rig that my dad had left me when he died. I could only dream of having the nice stuff he had. I tied the necessary equipment on his line and baited his hook. He then threw his line way down the river across a tree branch into the water. The tree branch started to bend and the fight was on. I helped him land about a 10 pound blue cat. He put his catfish in a ice chest with his beer and put his equipment up and said well fishing isn’t to hard then got into his car and drove off. I am sitting there trying to catch fish to feed my family and I did not catch a thing. It just was not fair I thought. It is not fair he is driving a new fancy car and I am driving my mom’s car. It is not fair he can afford fancy fishing gear and I am fishing with an old Zebco. It is not fair he caught a fish and I can not catch one. It is not fair he has plenty to eat and I have to go to school and work to help mom put food on the table. It is not fair that my dad, a preacher of the gospel, had to die and leave us so soon. It is not fair that we struggle and yet we are in church every time the church doors open. It is just not fair. Folks if someone told you life is fair, they lied to you. People get what they don’t deserve everyday both good and bad. One day we will stand before our Maker and if our sins are forgiven we will get what we do not deserve - a home in Heaven for eternity. If our sins are not under the blood we will get what we deserve -- the damnation of hell for eternity. It is not about fair or unfair - it is about our choice.
