Most of this article seems like good news, and most of it is. But there is one disturbing paragraph that refers to the N-word - Nuclear. In spite of all these successes the drop in Germanys CO2 emissions has stalled because of: the government’s determination to get rid of Germany’s nuclear power stations over the next decade, the culmination of a long battle that reached its peak after the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan. As that plan unfolds, shutting down a source of low-emission power, Germany’s notable success in cutting greenhouse gases has stalled. I am always frustrated when I talk to right wing people who will not listen to the overwhelming evidence behind the science of Climate Change. I am perhaps more frustrated when I talk to my people on the left about the need for limited nuclear power (for at least a hundred years) to be a part of our move to a non-carbon future. Most scientists, environmental engineers and more and more environmentalists (Monbiot for one) agree that we will need nuclear power during our transition off of coal. This stalling of carbon reduction in Germany (the country with the biggest push for renewables) proves their point.
