Most of us know that the City of Prineville Railway is the oldest - TopicsExpress

Most of us know that the City of Prineville Railway is the oldest continually-operated, city-owned railroad in the nation. And we might remember stories from the 1960s that the railroad was making so much money shipping timber products that the City of Prineville didn’t need to levy property taxes. If you have driven past the Prineville Junction north of Redmond, or noticed the activity at the freight depot on Bus Evans Road you will realize the City of Prineville Railway is still important to the economic development of Prineville and Crook County. In addition, it’s also home for the Mount Emily Shay #1 steam locomotive, one of only a couple dozen engines of its type still operating. Matt Wiederholt and Dale Keller will talk this Wednesday about the rapid growth of the railway in the past three years and will bring us up to date about some exciting ventures on the horizon.
