Most of you may not be using public transport or may be using it - TopicsExpress

Most of you may not be using public transport or may be using it occasionally. By far BMTC is the costliest public transport in India. Even if the cost of Diesel goes up by 2 rupees, stage fare increases by rupees 1 as if the bus is running exclusively for one person. The increase in diesel price has only helped the government to make more money both through the taxes and also through the increase in the bus fare. While the KSRTC bus fare can be kept around that of private operators or thereabout, the BMTC and other city bus fares must be brought down. There has been about 10% decrease in the diesel price in the recent past and theres no reason why the bus fare shouldnt come down. Its also the right time to bring about some radical changes in our public transport. Why should the government buses pay tax for the Diesel? Surely, no one will complain about that, and secondly this stage system bus fare is a a big joke. We must devise ways to charge people for the distance traveled and not for the stages. If an intelligent person takes over as the Transport Minister, some good changes can be brought about. We, at Loksatta Party Karnataka are organizing a protest demanding immediate reduction in BMTC and KSRTC bus fares. The protest will be held on Saturday between 9:00AM and 11:30AM near BMTC/KSRTC Office, Shanti Nagar Bus Stand, Double (K.H) Road. We welcome all of you to join the event. Thank you,
