Most of you probably dont know this, but I was almost murdered - TopicsExpress

Most of you probably dont know this, but I was almost murdered about 8 years ago at my apartment in college. Since the newness of living here has worn off, its time to sound off. We really appreciate the ones who are genuinely concerned for our safety over in the Middle East. Take a minute and think though, were you concerned about us living in Savannah (Probably the most dangerous city in GA as of recently)? Would you have been concerned if we would have moved to Atlanta (Metro area has several most dangerous cities in GA)? What about What about Rome, Ga? Cedartown, Ga (top 6 most dangerous city in GA)? Back home to Calhoun? Hartford, Connecticut? Grand Rapids, Mi? Statesboro, Ga? Jacksonville, FL? Milwaukee, Wi (since Appleton is like the safest city in the world haha Phil Stoffel)? I could take the time to list all cities we have connections with. Out of the crime ratings, the next safest city to Abu Dhabi from our connections is Grand Rapids, Michigan with a Crime Index of 36 (0-lowest, 100-highest) and a Safety Index of 64 (the higher the better). Do you know what the Crime Index of Abu Dhabi is? 14!!!!!!!!!! Safety Index? 86!!!!! So are you really concerned for our safety? Why? Because the Middle East is full of turban/towel-headed terrorist who have nothing better to do than slash infidels heads off? Again, we appreciate the sentiments of ALL, and there have been A LOT, who have voiced their concerns about us living here. Honestly, though, I am more concerned about your safety than ours. We feel more safe here than weve ever felt. Granted its only been 3 months, but I have yet to stare down the barrel of a glock here, unlike what I faced in Statesboro. Can something happen here? Yes. If something were to happen, Im sure you might say, I knew they shouldnt have moved over there...Its a shame the media paints such a negative image of something or somewhere they have absolutely no expertise on. And what do we do? We let them spoon feed us the garbage without taking the time to spit it out and face the facts. Fact: Statistically speaking, we are safer here than we would be living in Savannah, Atlanta, Calhoun, Cedartown, Grand Rapids, Jacksonville, Stone Mountain (where we almost moved to a year ago), and most other cities in the US. Goodness, I think Savannah had something like a matter of 20+ shootings in the matter of a couple of months! Look, Im sorry I am ranting. Well, Im not sorry, because it needs to be said. I sincerely thank all who are genuinely concerned for our safety. We are going to remain vigilant and survey our surroundings. But please, dont jump on your soapbox because you have a false sense of security of where you live. Step out of your bubble, quit sipping the propaganda and the skewed information the media feeds you, get rid of your US-egocentric perception, and take on a world-perspective. The US isnt superior to the rest of the world. Im sure you might even accuse me of hating my country and telling me to stay here or blah blah blah. I dont even have a response for that garbage. I love the USA. Im proud to be an American. Im proud, despite what you think is going on over there, to have many freedoms we dont have here. I love the UAE. I love the Middle East. I eat lunch and dinner with Muslims. I love my neighbors. I think the azan is the most beautiful and peaceful sound Ive ever heard. I like adapting to the culture. Has any of that changed my personal beliefs? No. My faith will not waver. I have learned to respect other beliefs, whether they align with my own or not. Please, Please, PLEASE, educate yourselves. Its for your own good and the rest of mankind. There are zealous fanatics in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Dont let the FEW persuade you to pass judgment on the majority. That applies to EVERYTHING going on in the world right now. Rant over. As Salamu Alaykum (PEACE be upon you) We love you all. Merry Christmas!
