Most of you saw the sad but heartwarming video of Zach in the tub with baby Sonar a few days ago, and the adorable picture of him with St Bernard Ludwig. Its been awhile since I posted it, but since so many of you requested it, here is Sonars story. It began just before Christmas in 2011...He was found by KCAC with his ears cut off, some idiot took a pair of scissors to him, and left him in a trash pile for dead. Zach and a friend snatched him up as one of the animal control officers was bringing him in, and he went straight to Tehachapi vet. There they said his ears were badly infected and he had pneumonia, we werent entirely sure he would make it, but our boys spirit was strong and with love and meds, he got physically well. He then went to foster care with our pal Karissa, who took weeks teaching him to trust again as he was very fearful of anyone who tried to touch him. I met him when Karissa brought him to Zachs, my very first night at the rescue, and it was love at first sight. This poor fearful little puppy needed me, and I never let him go again. It took a minute or so to convince Zach to let me keep him as one of our mascots, but I am so glad that we did!!! He has grown into one of the most spirited, happy-go-lucky dogs I know. He now works with me everyday; what a lucky dog!! He is extremely intuitive and has proven to be the best training partner a girl could have. His calm, assertive, gentle energy can put even the edgiest dog at ease. I couldnt do what I do without him, and I like to think he feels the same. What most of you dont know is I lost my 6 year old pitbull Stitch to cancer in 2010 and I hadnt really gotten over it until I rescued Sonar. In essence we rescued each other, and thats what Marleys Mutts is all about. You can see his transformation in the photos below, and his constant happy smile. I love my boy!!! ~ Lisa
