Most of you would be aware of the importance of recovery - TopicsExpress

Most of you would be aware of the importance of recovery post-race, but I thought it might be a good idea to introduce our new members (in some cases re-introduced old members) to a simple post-race recovery plan! Anyway....I would like to reiterate the importance of allowing the body to recovery from racing, so that it can rejuvenate, minimising the risk of stress related injuries and long term fatigue! Training can still continue, but at a much reduced intensity, volume and some running could/should be replaced with cycling, swimming, cross training and preferable a low impact activity! I have always used the below formula to prescribe post-race recovery to my athletes that I coach, albeit very basic and by no means the only method available Im sure! Number of km raced divided by 1.5 equals the recovery days required! Examples: 1. Marathon 42.2km/1.5 = Approx. 28 days of easy activity. 2. Half Mara 21.1km/1.5 = Approx. 14 days of easy activity. 3. 10km 10km/1.5 = Approx. 6 days of easy activity. JB
